Cadole au filet

Patrick Belmont

Cadole’ is a french word for vineyard shelter

in which winegrowers store their tools. It is similar to a house because winegrowers sometimes used it to sleep in case of emergency. It is a nod to my childhood in the Beaujolais region of France, evoking its rolling yet solitary landscapes where houses serve as shelters for people and tools alike. The suspension of the sculpture both magnify and ensnares this memory—elevating it while making it a martyr, perhaps out of a desire to hold on to it as long as possible.

Cadole au filet is part of the exhibition « Décortiquer sans violence un jouet favori » which happened in May 2020 in ZSenne Artlab gallery, Brussels.
